iOS 18 has massively broken adding your new iPhone as a Trusted Device to a secondary Apple Account. Figured it out though!

The old way was adding it as an account in “Passwords & Accounts" - gone

Apple's docs tell you to log out of your main account, which as we all know, messes up your phone for days

I figured the old Accounts menu has probably gone into the new Apps > Mail, and indeed, logging in there does add your new device as trusted, but you have to play a game of Simon dismissing or accepting various error dialogs as it tries you use your current (wrong) account to verify, but in reality you have to use a different device.

Eventually it did work though! (2/2)

So the definitive way to add your iPhone as a trusted device on a secondary Apple Account is:

1. Go to Apps > Mail and add/select it

2. Enter password

3. On the "Verification failed" dialog, hit “Cancel”

4. It'll pop up the password dialog again, hit “Cancel”

5. In the “Account Verification" dialog, hit “Settings” (3-4-5 may repeat randomly)

6. Enter 2FA code from an already trusted device

7. Done!

8. Curse Apple
