PowerMac G4 Quicksilver

I had a G4 Quicksilver 2002 when I was a kid and it was a really fantastic machine. It lasted me a very very long time, with a dual G4 upgrade it could even play 1080i MPEG2 video (just barely). So it was nice getting another one (even though this one isnt the 2002 model). The G4 is a very practical retro Mac since it's modern enough that parts and compatibility is easy (built-in ethernet, IDE parts, PC133 RAM) but it can still run OS 9.

Buying it

Another HARD OFF find. Just 1000 yen! I had to have it... It came without RAM or a harddisk, but I just had to scrounge around in the RAM and HDD junk bins at HARD OFF to complete the set for an additional 1500 yen.

Installation

The G4 is modern enough that setup was a snap. I burned MacOS 9 and OS X install discs and formatted the drive installed them. No drama.

AirPort

I picked up an AirPort card off of Yahoo! Auctions since my old Airport Express working in bridge mode was turning flakey.
