It's been a few months since I learned about RS-449 and I can't stop thinking about it.
It was supposed to be the successor to the RS232 serial we all know and love, but kept gaining so many niche features in committee that they ran out of pins in the DC-37(!) connector and had to add A SECOND PLUG with more pins.
Needless to say, it never caught on and was quickly rescinded.
Looking at this diagram I'm still not convinced this isn't some elaborate online troll or April Fool's that everyone forgot about
